The angels appearing throughout the website are from a collection commonly known as The Bernini Angels. Gianlorenzo Bernini (1598 – 1680) was commissioned for this work and carved only two of the angels in marble. Eight other angels were carved by his students. Replicas of eight of the ten angels are placed on Pont San’Angelo, the bridge over the Tiber River in Rome that provides access to Castel San’Angelo. The angels on the bridge were photographed by Joseph B. Sankovich for use in this website.
