After work with more than 1,200 parish cemeteries, the need was clear. Pastors, cemetery board members, and parish leaders were asking for help. More than thirty years of involvement with diverse parish cemeteries across the United States provided the experience required to respond effectively.
Parish volunteers consistently expressed willingness to serve, yet they needed training, structure, and ongoing support. This apostolate is complex and requires clear How To documents to ensure business, legal, and theological compliance. We also recognized that inadequate cemetery endowment care funds can be strengthened; that parish leadership often lacks familiarity with OSHA requirements and fines; and that the Catholic cemetery tradition is neither widely understood nor celebrated.
